Success!!! This post is a little late but what can I say.. I'm a lazy student. Anyway, I'd just like to thank all of Canada for electing a Conservative majority, an NDP opposition, and TOTALLY DECIMATING the Liberal and Bloc parties. I couldn't have scripted it any better. I know this website was the key to the Conservatives and NDPs success so my invoice is in the mail.
Anyway, onto some site news. College Forums is closing in on its 1 year anniversary so we'd just like to thank all the faithful readers out there that send us fan mail and hate mail. I'm not telling you to vote Conservative, NDP, Green, or Bloc but just DON'T VOTE LIBERAL. Ok and don't vote for the Bloc either. The Bloc have only one bullet point on their platform, to seperate Quebec from Canada. Nobody wants that, even if francophones are irritating and high-maintenance. The liberal party on the other hand is basically a junior version of the American Democrats. They promise you the world to get elected and then its just one fuckup after another. Michael Ignatieff has to be the biggest doucher in the country yet the Liberal party, having no other option, chose him to lead their party. The man didn't even live in Canada up until 2 years ago or so. He promises to put funding into social programs - the same social programs that the Liberals cut funding to in the 90's. He talks about having transparency in federal government, yet it was the Liberals that closed the doors in the 90's. Don't trust him and don't vote for him.
The bottom line is, Canada prospered during the hardest economic times of our lifetimes under Steven Harper's Conservative minority government. Our presence on the international stage has been enhanced and repaired. The Liberals are still in the doghouse in this blogger's opinion, and they shall remain there for the forseeable future. Don't. Vote. Liberal.
Hey students. Apologies for the lack of updates in 2011, for some reason I've had a hard time getting into a routine this semester. But now that I don't need my part-time job anymore (see the blog post below for the reason why..) I find myself with more free time to relax (avoid homework/studying).
Before I go any further with today's blog post, I just want to address some of the questions and concerns I've received about the Ebook below. It is legit, I'm still using the secret techniques that they reveal in my spare time almost every day. This ebook will teach you how to set up websites that will make money for you passively. What this means is that you buy the ebook, learn the process through their videos/software/pdf's, implement what you learn, and build websites. This ebook teaches you how to position those websites to be long-lasting money makers that you don't have to maintain. The only limit to how much cash you can pull in is the time you devote to website building. For example, 1 website might make you $200 /month. So, 10 websites will make you $2000 / month. It's as simple as that. It's like owning a bunch of convenience stores that are open 24/7 and you don't have to pay the clerk! Cha-ching.

Anyway, onto today's blog post. It occurred to me today in class while sitting behind an extremely organized female student that my current system for learning in University might have some room for improvement. This girl has multiple color codes for taking notes, highlighting in her textbook, and writing things in her daily planner. It made me wonder how organized her actual studying was if this was her system for in-class work. So I'm on a quest to find the most effective ways of studying.. if you can help me out, post below in the comments section!

I hope you're all enjoying the break from homework, exams, 8:30am classes, freezing winds, icy bus stops, etc. I know I am, I haven't been awake before 11am once since my last exam on the 18th. My classes are all juggled and ready to go for the next semester, I'm almost looking forward to getting back into the routine. The sooner we start the sooner we finish, right?
Anyway Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukhah, Feliz Navidad, happy New Year and so on and so forth. Here's to a great 2011!
Caffeine withdrawal sucks. I don't recommend it. Want to feel like you have a hangover and a flu at the same time? Just let your body get used to 3-5 cups of coffee per day and then quit suddenly. During final exams, when stress is at a maximum. I wrote a final today and I think I didn't do too good. I rewarded myself with a nap, even though I had a minor headache that I knew was from a lack of caffeine. Fast forward 3 hours later and I wake up with a thumping, nauseating, pastey-mouthed sickness from hell. I mope around for a few hours, drinking water, taking advil, watching the Leafs get stomped (always cheers me up) but to no avail. I knew what the cure was.. fresh pot of double thick Nabob and I'm back to 100% again.
So there you have it, take it from me. DO NOT STOP DRINKING COFFEE. It is the nectar of the gods and the next best thing to actually being healthy and alert with proper amounts of sleep. I learned my lesson, see you in the morning Tim Horton's drive-thru guy that screws my simple order up everytime!

Am I the only one that seems to get stuck behind people with massive orders in drive-thru's? I just got back from a coffee run at Tim Hortons. The car in front of me took a solid 3 or 4 minutes to relay their order into the drive thru speaker and consequently 7 - 10 minutes to get their order of sandwiches, soups, iced capps, donuts, etc. Why does it seem I'm always 30 seconds too slow to get in front of these jack-asses?
If you're going to order enough coffee and food to feed a small army, be courteous and GO INTO THE RESTAURANT to order! Was it the weather that stopped you from getting out of your car? No, couldn't be. It's -1 here in Saskatoon today. Just plain lazy? That's definitely it.
Over the next few weeks I'm going to run an experiment. The first 10 times I go for coffee, I'm going to use the drive thru. I'm going to keep track of these variables: # cars in front of me before I order, time it takes for me to get to order, time it takes to get my order and leave. Then I'll run the next 10 times getting out of my car and going in to get my small order. I'll keep track of: # people in front of me in line when I arrive, time it takes to get to the cashier, time it takes to get my order and leave. These should be equivalent to the drive-thru variables.
My hypothesis is that there has been a giant switcheroo in terms of drive-thru convenience. I believe that all the lazy asses out there that use drive-thrus for giant orders are the same lazy jerks that don't cook for themselves... they're basically putting the last nail in the lazy coffin by using drive-thrus as their last respite of convenience, effectively maxing themselves out on laziness. I believe that actually going into the store to get a small order will be much faster than using drive-thrus which is ironic since the quick stop was what they were intended for in the first place.

If you can't carry your order with one hand, go into the restaurant
Pay attention and keep the line moving. (I'm talking to the ladies here mostly, put the cell phones down)
If it takes more than 3 sentences to order, go into the restaurant
Have your method of payment ready BEFORE you get to the window, you're given the total price after you order for a reason...
Keep the small talk to a minimum, the people behind you have stuff to do
Learn those rules and the world will be a much better place! At least when it comes to drive-thrus.
Hey students! November is flying by so that means you've started studying for finals, amiright? No? Well get crackin' because they're only 2 weeks away! I'm proud to say that I've started my text book review/summary for 2 classes so far. It feels good to start early! You know what else feels good? I finished my speech in my professional communications class on Thursday. I was the third student to go. So now for the next 2 weeks I get to show up to class, sit back with my Tims coffee, and watch other students squirm and nervously blurt out their 5 minutes of madness.
Anyway, I found another course for learning some new study techniques. This one is totally unique because it teaches holistic learning. If you haven't heard of this you gotta go check it out. Basically it's a method for learning that uses "tricks" of the brain that people have figured out over the years. Simple ways to link ideas together, mental sign posts to help you remember things faster and easier, and lots more. I checked out a preview and I can say for certain that some of the stuff in there sounds crazy but actually works. I may have stumbled across the greatest study tip ever in the history of the universe. Today is your lucky day because I'm going to immediately share it with the faithful readers of CollegeForums.ca! But first, how did I find this tip? I found it in an ebook that is totally unrelated whatsoever to studying. That just once again proves that ebooks are your friend, so go check out our new ebooks section to see what I mean! Anyway, it was actually an ebook on writing and communication. I was reading about good habits while editing a piece of literature you've created (boring, I know) and they suggested the coolest, easiest tip ever for catching spelling and grammar errors. They explain that by doing this simple thing you engage the side of your brain that normally sleeps through most of the day and you end up using more brain power.
So what is this tip? Simple: if you're right-handed, read the material while following along with your left hand. If you're left-handed, follow along with your right hand. So the obvious transfer of this technique is to do this while studying! I told you it was simple! I've only tried this a couple times over the last day or so and maybe it's coincidence or maybe it's the placebo effect but I think it works. My focus seems better and my comprehension is better which means no more going back to read things over again. Sweeet. The only thing worse than studying notes or text books is having to study them multiple times, amiright?
